How do I transfer Rivian ownership after buying through Plug?
Rivian ownership doesn't transfer automatically. Here's how to request the transfer from Rivian so you can book service.
Rivian ownership doesn't transfer automatically when you buy a Rivian through Plug. To schedule service with Rivian, you'll need to request an ownership transfer so the vehicle is added to your Rivian account.
What you'll need
- Photos of the front and back of your driver's license
- At least one of these purchasing documents: a signed bill of sale, a signed title or a registration card
Note: Rivian doesn't accept receipts or title applications as proof of ownership. If you need a copy of your bill of sale, contact our team and we'll send it over.
How to request the transfer
- Create a Rivian account at rivian.com/account/create, if you don't already have one.
- Open Rivian's inquiry form at rivian.com/support/contact-form.
- Choose Ownership transfer, then Bought from a third-party, and tap Continue.
- Upload your driver's license photos and your purchasing document, then submit.
How long it takes
Once Rivian has all of your documents, the transfer can take up to 7 business days. Sending everything at once helps avoid delays. After the transfer is complete, you'll be able to book service through your Rivian account.
Protect the vehicle's location data
If the previous owner hasn't removed the vehicle from their Rivian app yet, you can temporarily turn off their access to the vehicle's location. On the vehicle's center display, go to Settings > Data and Privacy > Rivian Mobile App. Rivian removes the previous owner's access once the transfer is complete.
