Pennsylvania: notifying the DMV after you sell

Pennsylvania doesn't have a sale notice for sellers. You're protected by signing the title over correctly, handling your plates and keeping good records.

At a glance

  • Required? No. Pennsylvania has no sale notice, but it's strongly recommended to keep records.
  • Deadline: None for you. Plug applies for the new title.
  • Form: None
  • Where to file: Nothing to file

What to do

  1. Sign the back of the title over to Plug.
  2. Remove your plate before pickup. PennDOT says to remove it right away.
  3. Keep a Bill of Sale or receipt for your records.

Your license plates

  • Remove your plate before pickup. It's yours, not the car's.
  • Transfer it to another vehicle or return it to PennDOT.

Keep for your records

  • A copy of the signed title
  • Your Bill of Sale
