How to prepare your title for mailing

If you have your title (no loan), you'll mail it to us. We pay you as soon as it arrives.

Please don't leave your title in the car. We need the original title mailed to us, using the prepaid label, before we can pay you.

When to mail it

After you sign the paperwork in DealNow and fill out the Vehicle Location form. That form creates a prepaid overnight shipping label. Wait for this label rather than mailing the title on your own.

How to sign it

Find your state in How to sign your title by state! to see exactly where to sign. The basics:

  • Use black or blue ink.
  • Sign and print your name exactly as it appears on the title.
  • If more than one owner is listed, your state's guide shows who needs to sign.
  • Leave the buyer sections blank.
  • Don't use white-out, scribble or cross anything out. Mistakes can void the title. If you make one, stop and text us.

After you drop it off

Text your Plug contact a photo of the shipping receipt so we can track the title and have your payment ready. If you mail it before the daily cutoff, we usually receive it the next business day and pay you that morning.

Why do you need the title before paying me?

We can't transfer ownership without the original title, and copies won't work. Once it arrives, payment goes out the same day.

Lost your title?

You can request a duplicate from your state DMV. Tell your Plug contact first, since in some states we can help with the paperwork.

A bank or credit union has the title

You don't need to mail anything. We get it straight from your lender. See Selling a car with a loan or lease.
