How to sign your title by state!
Your title is what transfers ownership of your car to Plug. Every state's title looks a little different, so we've put together a signing guide for each one. Find your state below.
Four things to check on any title
- Where to sign: the front or back of the title, and which box.
- What each line asks for: a signature, a printed name, or both. Match the label exactly.
- More than one owner: look at the word between the names. "OR" usually means one owner signs. Your state's guide has the rule.
- Notary: a few states require you to sign in front of a notary. Don't sign early.
Rules for every state
- Sign your name exactly as it's printed on the title.
- Use black or blue ink only.
- No white-out, cross-outs or scribbles. Mistakes can void the title.
- Leave every buyer section blank. Plug fills those in.
States that require a notary: Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.
